Electrical Problems Fixed Right the First Time

Priceless Electric handles electrical repair and troubleshooting for homeowners and businesses throughout the Augusta metro and the broader CSRA. Whether it's a breaker that won't reset, outlets that stopped working, or a burning smell you can't track down, John Price has seen it before. Over 20 years in the trade means most problems get diagnosed fast. Call (706) 627-6021 before a small issue turns into a full rewire.

Electrical repairs range widely in scope. A tripped breaker caused by an overloaded circuit is a quick fix. Wiring that's deteriorated behind walls in an older home, or a neutral connection that's arcing at the panel, takes real diagnostic work. What drives cost up is access, age of the wiring, and how far the fault has traveled from the symptom. We don't patch symptoms. We find the cause, explain what we found, and fix it correctly. Every job is different, contact Priceless Electric for an accurate estimate.

Common Issues

Electrical Faults We Diagnose and Repair

Most electrical problems give warning signs. The key is not ignoring them.

01

Breakers That Trip Repeatedly

A breaker that keeps tripping isn't protecting your home. It's telling you the circuit is overloaded or there's a fault somewhere on the line. We trace the load, identify the cause, and give you a fix that holds.

02

Dead Outlets and Switches

One dead outlet can mean a tripped GFCI somewhere upstream, a loose connection, or a failed device. We don't guess, we test. If you need a full outlet installation to replace damaged wiring, we handle that too.

03

Burning Smell or Scorched Plates

A burning smell from an outlet or panel is a fire risk. Don't wait on that one. Arcing connections can ignite insulation inside the wall before you see a single flame. Call us the same day you notice it.

04

Flickering or Dimming Lights

Occasional flicker is usually a loose connection or a failing device. Frequent dimming across the whole house can point to a utility supply issue or a problem at the main panel, something a home electrical upgrade may need to address.

05

GFCI and AFCI Failures

GFCI outlets in bathrooms, kitchens, and garages protect you from shock. AFCI breakers protect against arc faults in bedroom circuits. If either type keeps tripping or won't reset, there's a reason. We find it.

06

Panel and Wiring Problems

Old wiring, aluminum branch circuits, knob-and-tube, undersized gauge, fails in ways that aren't always obvious until something goes wrong. If your home is more than 30 years old and you're experiencing electrical issues, the panel and wiring are the first things we look at.

Our Process

How We Approach an Electrical Repair

  1. 01

    Diagnose Before We Touch Anything

We start with a full assessment, testing circuits, checking the panel, and tracing the fault to its source. A lot of electricians replace parts until something works. We don't operate that way.

  2. 02

    Explain What We Found

Before any work starts, we tell you exactly what the problem is, what caused it, and what it takes to correct it. No vague estimates. No pressure.

  3. 03

    Fix It and Verify It

We complete the repair, test the affected circuits under load, and confirm everything is working before we leave. If we're in a home mid-renovation, we coordinate with the remodeling electrical work already in progress.

Safety First

When to Call an Electrician Instead of Waiting

Electrical panel wiring and circuit breaker installation in a residential wall
Honestly, most people wait too long. A flickering light feels minor until it's a fire behind the drywall. Here's the short version: call a licensed electrician if you smell burning, see scorching around outlets, hear buzzing or crackling from a panel or switch, or have a breaker that won't stay reset. Don't reset it repeatedly hoping it holds. That's not how circuit protection works. DIY electrical repair is legal for homeowners in Georgia on certain low-voltage or fixture-swapping work, but the moment you're inside a panel or dealing with anything that affects a circuit's protection, you need a licensed professional. John Price is licensed in Georgia, bonded, and insured, and he won't tell you that you need more work than you actually do. If you're also dealing with generator connectivity or storm-season preparedness, we can cover generator service in the same visit.

Electrical Repair FAQ

My breaker trips every time I run the microwave and the toaster together. Is that a wiring problem?
Probably a circuit capacity issue, not a wiring fault. Most kitchen circuits are 15 or 20 amp. Two high-draw appliances on the same circuit will exceed that. The fix is usually a dedicated circuit for the microwave. That's a straightforward job for a licensed electrician and it won't cost what people expect.
I have a GFCI outlet that won't reset: what does that mean?
A GFCI that won't reset is detecting a ground fault downstream. It's doing its job. You can check for a second outlet or appliance wired on the same GFCI circuit, but if nothing obvious is tripping it and it still won't reset, the GFCI device itself may have failed or there's an actual fault in the circuit that needs to be traced.
There's a burning smell near one of my outlets, but nothing looks scorched. Should I be worried?
Yes. A burning smell without visible scorching usually means the arcing is happening inside the wall at a wire connection. That's more dangerous, not less, because you can't see it. Turn off the breaker serving that outlet and call a licensed electrician the same day. Don't wait for it to look worse.
How long does an electrical repair typically take?
A single outlet or switch repair is usually an hour or less. Tracing an intermittent fault through an older home can take several hours depending on how the house is wired. Aluminum wiring repairs, common in Columbia County homes built in the 1960s and 70s, require specific connectors and take longer to do correctly. We'll give you a realistic time estimate after diagnosis.
Can I do electrical repairs myself in Georgia?
Georgia allows homeowners to do certain electrical work on their own primary residence, but you're still required to pull permits for most work, and inspections are required. Inside a panel or any circuit protection work is not where you want to learn on the job. An improper repair can void your homeowner's insurance and create a hazard the next person doesn't know about. We're bonded electricians who carry that liability so you don't have to.
What's the difference between an electrical repair and an electrical upgrade?
A repair restores something that was working and failed. An upgrade improves capacity or brings outdated equipment to current code, like replacing a 100-amp panel with a 200-amp service or adding circuits for an EV charger. Sometimes a repair visit reveals the underlying system needs an upgrade. We'll tell you which is which and won't push you toward the bigger job if the repair is the right answer.
